Creature Meets Culture

About Creature Meets Culture

Creature Meets Culture explores the extraordinary stories of animals who shaped human history—and how we shaped them in return. From heroic sled dogs to dolphin spies to ship cats who sailed around the world, each episode uncovers the fascinating intersections where animal lives and human culture collide, revealing truths about our shared past and what it means for our future together.

Your Hosts are three best friends who live across the country and want to spend more time together. Savanna and Haley are sisters and have known Debbie since middle school. Together, they are funny and silly and eager to learn more about the incredible ways animals make us more ourselves.

About the Hosts

Debbie Kirkpatrick

Debbie is a toddler and cat mom, wife, and an overthinker with some underthinking tendencies. Formerly a pre-k teacher and currently a school cook, she's excited to start her first podcast and couldn't be more honored to do it with her best friends. In her free time (which admittedly there isn't much of), she loves to read books, do anything with her toddler and husband, and spend time in nature and with animals (mostly her 3 cats).

Haley Perez

Haley is a science-loving elementary teacher, avid birder, and lifelong animal enthusiast. When she's not teaching or looking for birds, she's working in the garden, crocheting cozy blankets, or rollerblading with her husband. Haley is passionate about helping others discover the joy and wonder of the natural world.

Savanna Smith

Fueled by a childhood full of pets, Savanna has been an animal lover her entire life. She is currently pursuing a degree in nursing, and when she's not at the hospital or studying, she is baking, exercising, or out on a hike with her husband and their two lovable pit bulls. Savanna is a great person to have around when you're experiencing a medical emergency, as she'll know how to save your life, but she will probably ask to pet your dog first.
